The Accessibility Program
Access to theater for all patrons has been at the forefront of Arena Stage’s history. The first theater to offer audio-described performances for blind and visually impaired patrons, Arena Stage has been a pioneer in accessibility. Beginning in 1979, founders Thomas and Zelda Fichandler sought out advanced methods of ensuring that any patrons with disabilities could easily use and access all that Arena Stage has to offer. To this end, Arena’s AccessAbility programs ensure that all patrons, regardless of disability, will be able to experience the art of live theater.
The Accessibility Program at Arena Stage currently offers sign-interpreted, open-captioned, and audio-described performances for select performances throughout the 2009/10 season. There are also hearing assistants, large print, and Braille programs available upon request at every performance. Accessible seating is available in all performance spaces as are accessible restrooms.
